Applying the latest 2K5 CU Patch Scare me out of it

We're late to the party, as far as rolling out SQL2K5. I would like
to *GASP* apply the latest SP2 cumulative update to the servers(looks
like CU6). We of course have not yet encountered any of the errors
that are addressed in the CU updates. The probably-not-unique-to-us
deal is this: If we encounter any of the addressed bugs in
production, without 'proactively' applying the patch, we will get into
a lot of political hot water. Yes, MS says don't apply UNTIL you
encounter an issue, but that may not fly with the higher-ups.
I think it comes down to this for us: Are these CU patches any more
or less prone to create additional issues than a SP release?Examining how 'buggy' SQL Server service packs have been since SQL 2000 SP3,
I would say that CUs can't be any worse. :-))
There are some very significant bugs fixed in the CUs though, so I would see
if Microsoft will give you 6, or at least 5. I think CU4 (build 3186') is
the latest one you can get without going through MS.

proven to be stable, or we have lots of really lucky customers...

Applying Stylesheet in Reports (e.g. Font, Header)

I'm using Reporting Service with Service Pack3 and I want to Apply my own stylesheet in reports. I want to give my own style class to Fonts, Headers etc. Can anyone help me ? Is it possible or not ?SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services has somewhat limited style template
support. Improving support in this area is being looked at for inclusion in
a future release.
Until then you have the following options:
1. You can approximate this behavior by creating the specific report you
want and then placing it in C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft SQL
Server\80\Tools\Report Designer\ProjectItems\ReportProject directory. These
reports "templates" will show up in Report Designer's Add New Item dialog
along with the Report Wizard, Report, and Data Source templates when
you add a new report to a project.
2. For simple wizard-created reports, you can control the style via
modifying the wizard style templates (there's an XML config file for this
documented in the help)
3. If you're wanting to modify the style dynamically after the reports are
created, you could store style information in your database and then query
for that information in your report, setting style properties based on the
query results (e.g. FontFamily
=First(Fields!DetailRowFontFamily.Value,"StyleDataSet"))

Applying Style template afterwards

Hi
Is it possible to apply one of the style templates after creating the report in VS? I'm not using the wizard, but would like to use the style templates afterwards. So first create the whole layout before applying the style.

Applying SP4 on an active/passive 2 way cluster

I have a 2 way cluster and I want to apply SP4 on it.

Yes, and I don't quite get the problem. Let me quote point two in the
article I gave a link to:
"Run the service pack from the node that owns the group containing the
virtual server that you plan to upgrade. This installs the service pack
files on all nodes in the failover cluster."
Can you please explain what your problem is? As I understand your scenario
you have a two-node two-instance active-passive SQL cluster. An upgrade of
that cluster should be rather straightforward.

Maybe the problem is related to the service account your using for the
SQL service. Is this a new SQL Server installation? If so, what SP are
you currently running? Stopping and restarting the service are
independent of the "sa" account and password. I assume you have logged
into SQL Server from Query Analyzer using the "sa" login and everything
works fine.

Maybe the problem is related to the service account your using for the
SQL service. Is this a new SQL Server installation? If so, what SP are
you currently running? Stopping and restarting the service are
independent of the "sa" account and password. I assume you have logged
into SQL Server from Query Analyzer using the "sa" login and everything
works fine.

Yes, I'm able to log in with my sa cridentials using Query Analyzer.
This is new SQL installation 8.00.194 this is why I'm trying to apply SP3a.

Applying SP2a to SQL 2000/Win 2003

I'm getting this error message while trying to apply SP3a to SQL Server 2000
Standard that runs on Windows Server 2003:
"Setup was unable to verify the state of the server for an upgrade. Verify
the server is able to start and that you provided a valid sa password and
restart setup"
My sa password is definitely valid (verified), I'm able to stop and restart
SQL Server service manually with no problem. Please advise, this problem
happens every time I try to run SP3 or SP3a for SQL Server 2000 Standard that
runs on Windows Server 2003.
Thanks you in advance for your help,

Applying SP1 on Sql Server Express production environment

How do you apply Service Pack 1 to Sql Server Express 2005?Hi,

this can be directly read from the setup instructions:

Applying SP to Log-shipping Standby server

Scenario: SQL2000 server that is the Standby server in a log-shipping scenario

The need: Apply SP4 to the standby server

Issue: Service pack installation wants all databases to be "writable". The databases on the standby server are "IsInStandby" state and cannot be made "writable" (non-Read-Only) by the Alter Database command.

Question: is there a way to alter the state so that I can apply the service pack without removing log-shiping, applying the sp and then reestablishing log-shipping?

applying SP to 2005 active/active cluster

I have a 2005 active/active cluster and want to apply SQL server 2005 SP2 to both node.
I know that for active/passive , the sp can simple be installed on the active node(instance) and everything will be replicated to the other node.
bear in mind what I have SSIS and SSAS and SSRS running on the active/active cluster.

what is the rigth method for applying the SP to active\active cluster?

Thanks

We had the same situation a couple of weeks ago. When had several problems applying SP2 to the clustered machines. After talking to MS for several hrs about our problems, we finally corrected it....it was issues with different settings on our cluster. However, MS did recommend having both instances on one server, the primary, when you do the upgrade. I can't remember if the SP was applied to both nodes though. If it is not, its no big deal. Just apply it to the second node. I hope you have better luck than we did.

PS. Make sure that DCOM is enabled on both servers.

Applying Snapshot Offline

I have snapshot files on CD , how can apply to
subscriber offline , without connecting to publisher
pl guide thorugh example or link
thanks

Fatiya,
if you step through the pull subscription wizard, there is the option to
browse to an alternative snapshot location.

Applying of snapshot for transaction replication with DTS transfor

I created transaction replication with DTS transformation. Next I want to
move all data from publisher to subscriber - apply snapshot to subscriber.
Subscriber have different schema but no data. How it is possible to do? I
expected snapshot will use same DTS, but it not use it. Publisher DB is 24/7
system.
Have a look at transformable subscriptions. I would also advise you to have
a look at custom sync objects and encapsulating the data mapping in the
replication stored procedures as opposed to use DTS transforms due to
performance reasons.
Here is an article explaining how to do this.

Applying DBCC DBREINDEX on a database that is part of Transaction Replication

I am about to apply DBCC DBREINDEX to a large database that is part of transactional replication and synchronised every 3 minutes. What are the likely implication and what precautions I must take.

Thanks in advance

Regards

R Suresh

Logreader will not replicate the index rebuild operation. Also if you use SQL 2005, I recommend you to use ALTER INDEX to rebuild index because DBCC DBREINDEX is a deprecated feature.

Of course, you need to do some experiment to see the performance impact if you do it frequently.

Applying CSS to SRS Reports

Hi , I hava a quick question about can we apply Css to actual repots in the
SRS ?
Since i figured out there is one property comes with SP1 i.e.,
rc:Stylesheet=Mystylename (without css extension) but this solution can only
resolve my half problem i.e., it applies only to parameter section and
toolbar section of the report but i wanted to apply for complete report
display while rendering it or displaying with the use of ReportViewer control.
Any Help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
APatelWe have the same want, we ended up using a near identity xsl to transorm the
unstyled report into 3 styles that we use as a subreport. The outer report
uses the style as a parameter, then we show/hide the subreports based on the
style...Yes it's very clunky, I'm looking for suggestions on a better way.
Here's my xsl file:
