Message posted via http://www.sqlmonster.comHi,
Did you mean SQL Server error logs or Tranasction log backups?
If it is Error log, sql server by itself keep only 6+1 (current) copies by
default. The old files will be deleted automatically.
If it is Transaction log backup files, then use database maintenance plan to
fix a archival day. So as old file(s) will be deleted automatically.
Thanks

You can change the number of error logs maintained by editing the Registry
for any instance. For the default instance, find the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\MSSQLServer and edit it by
adding a new value. Define the value with the name NumErrorLogs, and the
type REG_DWORD. Supply any initial value desired, but keep in mind that the
value you enter when editing the Registry will be in hexadecimal format.
For a named instance, you need to find the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\<SQL Server
Instance Name>\MSSQLServer. Again, use the Edit feature of the Registry to
add a new value with the name NumErrorLogs of type REG_DWORD, and supply an
initial value in hexadecimal format.

Apply PreSP4 fix
Hi,
I need to apply 3 preSP4 fix to SQL server.
Can i aplly all 3 fix and if so, is the order of how i apply them important?
Kind Regards
Michael TroelsenService packs are cumulative... That means you simply install the most
recent service pack and you will be up-to-date... When you download a
service pack, there will always be a readme file, and installation
procedures...
ALWAYS, read the files and follow the instructions... However generally
installing service packs is very easy... Simply calling a bat file...

installed in a certain order you should be safe installing in any order.

Append Data
Hi,
Appreciated it if someone could help me with regards to
the abovesaid problem.
I don't know how to append data using SQL Query Analyzer
from table a to table b because it will create duplicate
table b.recordnumber(auto number) in table b. I tried to
use DTS but failed due to the duplicate record number(auto
number).
tq.
Hi,
Use "SET IDENTITY_INSERT" to allow explicit values in acolumn with identity.
See SET IDENTITY_INSERT in books online. There is good example as well which
shows the usage.
Sample:-
create table id1(i int identity, k char(10))
create table id2(i int identity, k char(10))
go
insert into id1(K) values('hari')
insert into id2(K) values('raj')
go
select * from id1
select * from id2
go
set identity_insert id1 on
insert into id2(k) select k from id1
go
select * from id2
Thanks
Hari
